r/UKPolitics Spring ’23 survey – Results

Way back in May (sorry!) I posted the UKPolitics Spring survey, and got a mere 763 responses 😦

Here are the results

First, how people voted in 2019

Next, how people would vote in a GE tomorrow

Which of these labels would you describe yourself as?

Most of the results showed decent variation by party affiliation, but two of the trolley problems showed little variation

(1 = strongly disagree to 7 = strongly agree)

Scenario 1: You are standing on a bridge over a railway track. You see a runaway train coming down the track where two people are tied down. You can reach a lever that would divert the train onto another track, where one person is tied down.

Statement: I would pull the lever

Scenario 2: You are standing on a bridge over a railway track. You see a runaway train coming down the track where two people are tied down. You can shove another person standing on the bridge off the edge, and the train will hit them instead, and come to a stop before the two tied-down people.

Statement: I would shove the person

We should have stricter immigration rules to prevent people with illiberal views (eg on women or LBGT people) coming to country

Scenario: You are a soldier dealing with a terrorist cell in a foreign country. You have captured a 12 year old who knows about a bomb that will be set off tomorrow and will kill 2 innocent people. The child has been brainwashed into keeping the bomb’s location secret. You have divine knowledge that if you torture the child, you will get the knowledge and be able to stop the bomb in time.

Statement: I would torture the child.
